The 10 must-visit destinations in Malaysia
Malaysia is truly a sight to behold from its diversity in ethnicity, culture, scrumptious food and mesmerizing places of interest, it is indeed safe to say that Malaysia is a country worth the visit. Trust me, you will hold no regrets! Here are some of my personal favourites.
1. Malacca
The state of Malacca is our very own land of diverse culture and history. The colonial city along the Straits of Malacca attracts many due to its architecture, food and of course famous Jonker Street Night Market! St Paul's Church, A Famosa Fort, Stadhuys, the river cruise as well as Jonker Street are the top attractions in Malacca. If you're fond of history, this is heaven on earth for you. Oh! Do experience the trishaw ride around Malacca City too. It's really fun!
2. Mount Kinabalu, Sabah
If you're one with an adventurous spirit, I suggest you take up the challenge to climb up to the peak of the majestic Mount Kinabalu. This mountain is the highest peak in Borneo's Crocker Range and its the highest mountain in the Malay Archipelago as well as Malaysia. Be sure to be well prepared and keep yourself warm before the climb cause it's going to get real chilly!
3. Perhentian Islands, Terengganu
This beautiful island lies in the South China Sea off the coast of Terengganu and is one of the most beautiful islands to visit in Malaysia. The main coral-surrounded islands consist of Besar (Big) and Kecil (Small). Imagine white sand stretched across and crystal clear blue water tapping away towards the shore. This island is famous for snorkeling, scuba diving and canoeing activities. Enjoy the relaxation and calming spirit brought to you by the island.
4. Georgetown, Penang
Penang always tops the list as one of the must-visit places in Malaysia. If you're an adventurous foodie, Penang is the place to be. Georgetown in Penang however is an open museum. Stroll through the streets and be amazed by the array of British buildings, shop houses, churches, Fort Cornwallis. The uniqueness of its style and design is what that captures one's interest.
5. Johor Islands
In the Southern region where the laid back state of Johor lies holds a sight of wonder. Get on board a ferry to the islands of Johor and be captivated by its beauty. Crystal clear blue water, white sandy beaches, local villages and food, live a life of a dream in an island. Among the islands in Johor are; Pulau Rawa, Pulau Besar, Pulau Tinggi, Pulau Aur, Pulau Ebol.
6. Ipoh, Perak
Ipoh, the capital of the state of Perak is a top place to visit in Malaysia. This beautiful place consists of colonial buildings and colonial shop houses. Oh, the food in Ipoh is great too so be sure to indulge yourself in some good food when you set foot in Ipoh. One of the iconic places to visit in Ipoh is Kellie's castle, be sure to drop by and have a look.
7. Genting Highlands, Pahang
Money, money, money.. It's a rich man's world! Would you dare try your luck in the famous casino in Genting Highlands? This casino is one of the main attractions for tourists across the Asian regions. Genting Highlands comprises of hotels, theme parks, shopping malls and casinos perched on the peak of Mount Ulu Kali at 1800 meters high and nestled between the border of Pahang and Selangor.
8. Sarawak Cultural Village, Kuching
Experience a unique multi-cultural extravaganza within the walls of the cultural village. Possibly the finest 'living museum' in South East Asia, the village combines history, lifestyle and architecture with a hint of education and theatrical performances. Seven longhouses (each unique in their own kind) bring you about the history and story about the people and their culture. If you're looking to witness an insightful experience of cultures in Sarawak, this is place to see.
9. Langkawi Island, Kedah
Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah is a district and archipelago comprising a total of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea. Surrounded by turquoise sea, the interior of the island is a mixture of paddy fields and jungle-clad hills. If you're intent on carting off duty-free products, this is the place to be. Nature lovers, you will certainly love this place.
10. Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
Port Dickson or better known as PD to the local community of Malaysia is a coastal town in Negeri Sembilan. PD is famous for hotels, resorts, food and beaches. PD Waterfront is one of its attractions. Explore PD at night for a mesmerizing sight.
